Terms of Use

These conditions apply whenever a person reads Portsmouth City Criminal History, follows one of its links, or uses a search tool. Continued use signals acceptance. Anyone who does not agree with the conditions should stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. Portsmouth City Criminal History is privately operated and has no government affiliation. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another use governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This is a Virginia public-record reference resource, not a private investigation firm or consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference site is independent of every government office. It does not store official records, perform official checks, retrieve a record, or file a document for a visitor.

Its role is to identify the Portsmouth Police and Sheriff channels, Portsmouth General District Court, Portsmouth Circuit Court, the Virginia Department of State Police repository, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also provide links to outside search services.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, a user must not:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information found here or through a linked tool may not be used to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Virginia's Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry exists for public safety and community awareness. Misuse against a registrant or family member can violate law; vigilantism and retaliation are forbidden.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create credit reports, background reports, or any other consumer report. Its advertising partners are not presented as tools for regulated screening. A user may not rely on this site or a linked tool to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A legally required check must be obtained from the proper official or FCRA-compliant channel, not from this site or its search widget.

5. No Legal Advice

General information about Portsmouth records is not legal advice. A licensed Virginia attorney should address how a charge, conviction, warrant, expungement, or sealing rule applies to a particular matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No guarantee is made that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, dispositions, custody facts, fees, and public access can change. Sealing and expungement can also alter what is released. Content here is never an official statement from a court, sheriff, police department, or state agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to Portsmouth agencies, Virginia courts, state offices, legal resources, and outside search providers. The destination controls its content, privacy practices, availability, and prices. Review its own terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Portsmouth City Criminal History or its content partners. Copying, distributing, changing, or creating derivative material requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site is not liable for damage arising from its use or from reliance on information supplied here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to hold the site harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that user's conduct or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute connected with use of the site must be brought in a court located in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A revision takes effect when the updated text is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one part of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining parts continue in force. The affected term will be adjusted only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions can be directed through the Contact page.
